Major Media Report's on Goel's Study on Prostate Screening

Numerous newspapers across North America published the results of a study on prostate cancer screening published by Dr. Vivek Goel and colleagues in the August issue of the Journal of Urology . Using a case control research design, this study found that prostate cancer screening reduces the risk of fatal protate cancer by as much as 35%. The test, which screens for elevated levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), is not currently covered by OHIP.


Deber Cautions Against Use of Non-Approved Drugs in Toronto Star

In a Toronto Star article (August 23, 2005) about a new private cancer clinic in Toronto, Dr. Raisa Deber is quoted cautioning the public about using drugs that are not approved by the provincial insurance plan. The new clinic will provide high-cost cancer drugs to those able to pay. Desparation may drive people to spend large sums of money for drugs that turn out to be ineffective or even harmful.
