From the Editorial Board
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the fourth issue of the Toronto Slavic Quarterly, the Internet journal of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Toronto. This particular issue is different from the first three in that it deals exclusively with Slavic and East European theatre and drama. Due to the universal nature of theatre, we have tried not only to include material from Russia and Eastern Europe, but also to show how these cultures interact with one another and with North American culture. Therefore, this issue includes an article by a Russian scholar dealing with contemporary Hungarian theatre and using current North American scholarship on gender issues, a translation into Polish of a recent Canadian play, a Canadian theatrical adaptation of a Russian work, a section devoted to the émigré actor Michael Chekhov, a Czech scholar discussing contemporary American performance art, and reviews from the World Stage Festival in Toronto, which featured productions from around the world. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the editors of the TSQ, Zahar Davydov and Kenneth Lantz, for their continued support. We hope that you enjoy this issue of the Toronto Slavic Quarterly as much as we enjoyed editing it.
Of course, as this issue goes live, we have already begun thinking about the next theatre and drama issue of the Toronto Slavic Quarterly, which will be published in May 2004. As a multi-lingual journal, we seek contributions in English and all Slavic and East European languages. Please send contributions along with an abstract in English to catwalkjournal@yahoo.ca by 1 December 2003 and please follow the submission guidelines of the Toronto Slavic Quarterly.
