Non-Experimental Design for the Health Researcher: A New Course Offering

A new course in non-experimental design for the health researcher was offered by Gillian Hawker this winter 2001 for students in the Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research Program. The course is designed to instruct healthcare providers who already have some background in general epidemiological principles and methods in the design, conduct and analysis of cross-sectional, cohort and case-control studies. Students undertaking the course are required to formulate and address a research question using one of the above study designs through the development of a formal research proposal that would pass peer-review. The course involves both lecture and active group-based learning, and was very well received by participating students.
