Welcome to New Faculty Walter Wodchis

Dr. Wodchis joins the department as full-time Assistant Professor, effective July 2004. In the interim, he will be completing a one-year CIHR post-doctoral fellowship at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and teaching Finance to MHSc students in HPME. He has been actively involved in the department as a tutor in the Canada Health System Course in the MHSc Program since 2002.

Dr. Wodchis completed his PhD in Health Services Organization and Policy at the University of Michigan, following a Masters of Arts in Economics (University of Michigan), a Masters of Arts in Gerontology (University of Waterloo) and a Bachelor of Mathematics, specializing in Actuarial Science, (University of Waterloo). His dissertation, entitled "The Effect of Government Payment Methods on Nursing Home Rehabilitation Treatment and Resident Discharge Outcomes", built on his experience in finance, gerontology and health services research. His areas of expertise include healthcare financing, benchmarking, utilization and cost analyses, and outcomes research in the long-term care sector.

Apart from his role with HPME, Dr. Wodchis is a Scientist with the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and Adjunct Scientist with the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). His post-doctoral fellowship will explore the relationship between quality and financial performance.
